As Spring itself, Vernal is brimming with anticipation– it’s heroic entrance in “We Drink Light” is a declaration of vivacity; emboldening us to follow, to run towards whatever might be on the horizon. In this chapter of Vertumnus, Packwood’s signature chamber orchestra and choir, thus far subtle – hinting at what might come, is set free, magnificent and wildly colourful. With nods to contemporaries such as Sufjan Stevens and Sigur Rós, the brilliant arrangements are a current, carrying Packwood’s vocals overhead, the excitement is infectious and it’s impossible not to get caught up in the undertow.
